Our Frame of Mind

A collection of tips, framing techniques and artist insights.

Advice for first-time framers

At American Frame, we wholeheartedly believe bringing beautiful art into your home, office, museum or gallery should be, above all, fun.

Since we started American Frame in 1973, we’ve helped make the process enjoyable for our customers by making them smarter about custom frames, how to frame a picture, and buying picture frames online. Whenever some new product, technique or insight comes along, we’re eager to share it.

Today, we’re proud to provide American Frame customers of all experience levels, from beginner to expert, with easy access to a lot of helpful information on art printing and framing.

HOW-TO VIDEOS
The American Frame YouTube page has dozens of informative (and, not-too-lengthy) videos covering a number of subjects: How to assemble frames; acrylics; mat boards; and various other framing materials and tools; as well as videos of artists, who offer interesting insights into their craft.

OUR HOW-TO PAGE
Go ahead, check it out. Our How-To page leads to hundreds of other informative pages about metal frames, wood frames, metal floater frames, wood floater frames, and FAQs about framing, printing your art, and other useful and helpful information.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS
From A to Z, the language of framing, and the various materials and techniques associated with it, are defined in our Glossary of Terms. What exactly does “archival” mean? What’s a point driver? A spacer? A rabbet? It’s all spelled out, right here.
