When Picture Framing, What Does H-W-R Mean?

We often get asked what the H, W, and R measurements on our website mean in relation to our picture frames. Today, we break it down with visuals, in an easy to understand format.

Here at American Frame, frames are available in a wide variety of dimensions. How do you determine the right dimensions to suit your needs? Just pay attention to the frame’s H, W, R: height, width, and rabbet.

On our website, next to the frame of your selection, American Frame has provided cutaways of each frame for your convenience, showing the frame’s height, width, and rabbet. We also provide a common object such as a quarter to compare sizing with. Simple and straightforward, so our customers know exactly what's best for their needs.

Please remember: frame height is how far your frame stands from wall; frame width is how wide the face of your frame is; and last but not least, the rabbet. This is the space where your artwork will fit in. So before making a final purchase, always pay attention to the H, W, R.
