This October, we’re excited to feature David FitzSimmons, an award-winning photographer, writer, and educator whose work inspires curiosity, creativity, and a love of nature. David has authored more than 25 children’s books, which have sold over half a million copies worldwide. His beloved Curious Critters series introduces young readers to animals from backyard birds to marine life, raptors, dogs, and more.
"I have been working with American Frame for two decades. From framing my photos for personal use to creating exhibits for gallery installations, I have turned to American Frame."

His books have been licensed by Scholastic, PBS, and even Chick-fil-A for their nationwide kids’ meals.

"For my Curious Critters series, I find that various colored metal frames create fun, lively, contrasting colors."

David has spent over thirty years in education, first as a high school English teacher and later as a university professor at Ashland University, Ohio State University, and Cornell University. He holds a Ph.D. in English with a focus on narrative theory, investigating the components of storytelling, a passion that clearly influences his writing and photography.
Beyond the classroom and studio, David actively works to connect children with nature. He regularly visits schools, leads seminars, and presents workshops to audiences ranging from public school and university students to photography groups, nature clubs, and civic organizations. His work has been exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, the National Center for Nature Photography, the Palm Beach Photographic Centre, and the Telluride Photo Festival.

Displaying David’s work in colorful frames in natural spaces not only brightens the environment but also emphasizes the beauty and curiosity in every scene.
"Being able to create a one-of-a-kind mat and frame helps me find unique ways to showcase my work. I love the easy-to-put-together kits, and the pre-cut acrylic is a game changer--just pull off the protective film, place it on the artwork, and put it all into the frame."
Through his books, photography, and teaching, David FitzSimmons continues to inspire creativity, intrigue and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
"American Frame's customer service department is kind and efficient. They always get back to me promptly to answer any questions."
