We offer museum-quality solid wood frames and Nielsen® metal frames at affordable prices, so you can frame more for less. We also ship quickly so you can meet your deadlines. And with our fine art and photography printing services, we can convert your digital image into a ready-to-hang piece, complete with the frame and mat selections of your choice. That’s why professionals, serious hobbyists, galleries and collectors trust us with the art they prize.
We do not. We prefer acrylic glazing. It’s lightweight, shatter-proof, acid-free, and distortion-free. You’ll find acrylic sheets
here.
Please place your order anyway and we’ll fill it as soon as the product becomes available. If the item is out of stock for a week or more, we will contact you with alternative product suggestions.
If you’d prefer to wait for your first choice, we’ll ship it once our stock has been replenished, and then send you the tracking information via email.
If you have multiple items in your order and one of them is out of stock, we’ll ship the in-stock items first, and then the out-of-stock item once it’s available.
It means we’re running low on that item and may not be able to fill large quantities immediately. If you place your order and we don’t have enough stock to fulfill it, we’ll contact you to discuss options.
Metal Frames - We ship our metal frames and the necessary hardware disassembled. You only need a screwdriver to put them together.
Wood Frames - Unless otherwise indicated, we ship our wooden frames with all four sides assembled. You just place your art stack in the frame and attach the provided spring clips to hold everything into place. The spring clips are easily inserted with a screwdriver.
Linen Liners - When you order a linen liner with a wooden frame, we’ll attach the liner into the frame for you, unless you prefer otherwise. If the linen liner is ordered separately from the frame or ordered with a metal frame, we’ll ship the assembled liner for you to attach to the frame.
Printed, Framed, Ready to Hang
When you select our printing services, you can also choose to have us frame your work and ship it to you ready to hang.
We provide the necessary hardware to put your frame together, as well as 8 tension spring clips per frame to hold your artwork in place.
If you’re framing a piece over 20” x 30”, we recommend adding extra
spring clips to your order.
Wood frame hardware packages include a saw-tooth hanger and frame hangers.
Metal frame hardware packages include frame hangers.
Wire and additional
metal sawtooth hangers are available for purchase.
We also offer a variety of hanging hardware to display your work on a wall, and easels that attach to smaller frames for tabletop displays.
If your order is being shipped to you and you live outside Ohio, there is no sales tax applied. If you’re picking up your order in our showroom, we must add sales tax. If you are tax exempt, please call or visit our showroom to ensure that we have your information on file before you place your order.
When custom framing for your own purposes, it’s all about trusting your instincts. If the frame you choose will eventually hang on someone else’s wall, you must at least consider prevailing tastes. Appealing to a broader audience may dictate a more conservative or expected frame choice.
Need some direction? Start by considering the purpose of your frame treatment. Where will the art be displayed? Will you display the work permanently or for a short time? How will your choice of frame treatment affect your asking price? Your answers will guide your frame selection.
When in doubt, keep it simple with a classic gallery-style black profile in
wood or
metal. Use a wide neutral mat board and branch out from there.

Yes. If you’re a frequent framer and know the item number of the frame you want, try our
proQuickShop™interface. Enter the product code when prompted and you’ll be taken to a custom workflow. Mat and mounting boards, acrylic, and other materials can be added once you’re there.
Or browse our collection, then select a frame. You’ll be taken to a workflow with that frame, a default mat board, mounting board and acrylic included as a kit. Use the ‘remove’ option at the cost detail level to delete any unwanted products.
Order by ‘art size’ when you want your drawing, painting or photograph to dictate the size of the frame treatment. Choose a frame. Once in the workflow, enter the exact height and width of your artwork. Those dimensions will stay constant throughout the design and ordering process. The outside measurements of the frame will adjust as you make mat board and frame choices, and will be displayed under the frame graphic on the left side of the screen.
Would you like to fill a specific wall space with custom-framed art? If so, order your frame by the frame size. Enter the dimensions of the frame you want to create. They will stay static throughout the design process. The actual outside frame dimensions will vary with the width of the frame you choose. Those outside dimensions will always be displayed for your reference under your frame graphic on the left side of the screen.
With each frame style, we provide a
frame detail page. It includes a profile illustration and important measurements. To access the frame detail, click the magnifier icon at the collection level before entering the design workflow.
Before ordering a frame, estimate the total thickness of your artwork, the acrylic sheet, mat boards and mounting boards you’ll be framing. Once you have that measurement, compare it with the "rabbet depth" displayed in the illustration. If the total thickness of your materials is less than the rabbet depth, your artwork will fit inside the frame.
Absolutely. We cut all materials to the sixteenth of an inch, ensuring a perfect fit for every frame.
Mat boards play an important role in the look of a framed piece and provide a resting place for the art, sitting between the frame and your work. They add interest with variations in thickness, depth and color.
They also protect photos and paintings from damage by creating space between the art and the acrylic sheet or glazing, allowing air to circulate within the frame treatment. They provide a structure for hinging or securing the art within the frame, too.
Our
mat board collection ranges from economy to archival, so you have many options regarding appearance and protection.
Border size is a matter of taste and can be affected by the goal of your frame design.
Want to make a small image appear larger? Need to constrain a larger piece to fit a smaller space? Most mats range in width up to 2” for smaller pieces and up to 5” for larger works of art. Our online frame design tool uses a default mat border of 2”. You can adjust that mat size to meet your preferences and budget.
Yes, we do. We provide free 2” sample chips of all our frames and mat boards. You can order as many as ten.
You can place orders for picture frame samples online. There’s a shipping & handling fee of $3 per sample order (maximum of 10 samples) if you order samples on their own. If the samples are part of an order for American Frame products, there is no additional charge. Click on the magnifier icon at the product level display before entering the workflow. For a small fee, you can buy corner samples as well.
Order mat board samples from each product level detail page or in
full sets.

Acrylic is a petroleum-based product and ammonia-based cleaning solutions can damage it. We recommend cleaning acrylic with water, or a product designed specifically for acrylic, such as Novus Acrylic Cleaner and Polish. Use a soft microfiber cloth to avoid scratching the surface. Both items are available in our Acrylic Plexi-Glass Cleaning Kit.
