What Frames Are Best With Linen Liners

Linen liners can be used in place of a mat board for canvas on stretchers or canvas on board. They can also be used for aesthetic purposes, like dressing up a frame treatment.

Any wood frame can be used with a linen liner; however one with a deeper rabbet is preferred. Using a frame with a rabbet that is smaller than the height of the liner will cause the liner to stick out of the back of the frame. A liner is not recommended with metal frames.

We carry four liners. Liners 2007 and 6183 have a height of 9/16˝.

Liners 2009 and 6185 have a height of ¾˝.

If you plan on using 2007 (natural) or 6183 (white), make sure the rabbet of the frame is larger than ½˝.

If using liners 2009 (natural) or 6185 (white), make sure the rabbet of the frame is larger than ¾˝.

Note: if you order your frame and liner in the workflow, the liner will be attached for you.

Use the following list as a guide to which frames will be sufficient for these liners.
