Neal DePinto Wins Featured Artist Contest

I am pleased to announce April's Featured Artist Contest winner: Neal DePinto. Read more about Neal and his artwork in this press release that was sent to the media.

Every month, American Frame, a web-based custom framing and art printing company, sponsors a contest for artists who sell and display work through American Frame’s online Art Gallery. Winners are selected by customer votes on Facebook and receive a cash award and promotion through American Frame. This month’s winner is painter Neal DePinto.

DePinto’s formal education is in computer graphics and this sensibility infuses his painting. The man-made thing—whether vehicle, monument, building or sign—and humans are the dominant images in DePinto’s largely realistic work. Working in acrylics, he depicts modern urban life in detail, capturing the sense of anonymity and distraction that fill our city days along with a certain levity. “I like to read, to escape into stories, and I like the combination of architecture, vehicles and machinery created by people to work and enjoy life.”

The winning painting is a strong example of DePinto’s style. “Waiting to Cross” blends the stillness of architecture with the constant movement of buses, cars and pedestrians. The details of modern life, such as shopping bags, briefcases, and rumpled ties, are carefully rendered, lending these everyday objects importance and pathos. The image’s modern aesthetic and varied color palette with dark shadows suggesting a hint of city grime calls out for a simple black frame, either metal or woodMat board  choices could vary considerably, from a classic white to a playful yellow to reflect the awnings or a red to echo the vibrant bus.
