Custom Framing of a Sacred Document

This Ketubah was brought to our Showroom in dire need of framing! Traditionally, a Ketubah is an ancient Jewish wedding contract that is used to outline the duties of a couple’s marriage. Today, it is considered a marriage certificate that uses images and words to express marriage vows.

unframed and framed ketubah

This ornate Ketubah is hand-painted on thick watercolor paper. The goal in custom framing was to pick-up the colors of the painting while accentuating its ornate qualities. This was achieved by using an AlphaRag 8-ply mat in Deep Sage (8673.8) and choosing a very elaborative gold moulding (frame N118, Silver and Gold- Antique Gold with Red). The sage mat punctuates the colors in the ring and the text while allowing the brighter colors to pop and stand out. The design of the frame mimics the hand-painted detailing in the corners of the Ketubah. Because this is considered a sacred document, conservation is key. To keep the document safe, the customer chose to use Archival Mounting Board and UV Acrylic. The finished size of the piece is 25 x 25” and cost $189.44.

What do you think of the results? We love the idea of framing sacred documents/artwork. Not only does custom framing help to preserve the piece but it allows it for a family’s traditions to be artfully kept as a part of one’s décor, sparking dialog and stories for years to come. What have you framed that is deemed sacred to you?

I do have a certificate for a study I did that was awarded to me upon completion of a 3 year study.
Might not be a bad idea to have our Marriage certificate framed.
