Dad, Inspired

Here’s to all who are dads, who love their dads, who want to be dads, and to those who have been inspired by an amazing dad, be it their own or someone else’s. Great parenting doesn’t just “happen.” It comes from a love deep down that cannot be logically explained. We all know it, don’t we?

This love transcends time and space. It drives an enduring commitment to one’s children as well as those around them. A great parent nurtures, loves, challenges, mentors and guides, all while motivating and supporting in ways that help his loved ones to discover their own voices, their own talents and ultimately find their own way in the world, in whatever path they choose.

Ron and Laura

Today I would like to share my personal gratitude for my incredible father, Ron Mickel, who has been all that and more to me, my sister and brothers, and many more whose lives he has touched over the course of his lifetime. At 81, he has the energy and vitality of someone easily 20 years younger. He continues to be loving, engaging and most happy when he’s building something, and that’s exactly what we have him doing! This year we are expanding our facilities (more on that later), which means there is lots of planning going on. His days mainly consist of meeting with realtors, designers and contractors, helping us with floor plans and budgets. Although, we still let him get out to golf; after all, this is the Midwest and we did have the most horrible winter on record in Toledo. He demonstrates on a daily basis that age is just a number, life is to be embraced, and that fatherhood—parenthood, for that matter—is a privilege and great fathers DO make a difference.

Mine is just one example of millions in the world. What about the dad in YOUR life? Please share your story and let’s honor and celebrate them together.

Happy Father’s Day!
