Featured Artist Contest – David Plank Winner!

I am very honored to announce November's Featured Artist Contest winner: David Plank. Read more about David and his artwork in this press release that was sent to the media, today.

Every month, American Frame, a web-based custom framing and art printing company, sponsors a contest for artists who sell and display work through American Frame’s online Art Gallery.  Winners are selected by customer votes on Facebook and receive a cash award and promotion through American Frame. This month’s winner is digital artist David Plank of Premier Pet Portraits.

An industrial design specialist with a long career in commercial visual arts, David Plank had a wealth of technical expertise.  When he combined that knowledge with his love for animals, a new business was born: Premier Pet Portraits.  “Pets have a way of endearing themselves with their owners.  My intention is to celebrate that special relationship.”

Pets are also notoriously difficult models.  They rarely stand still or make an expression on cue.  Using Photoshop, Plank works from photographs to overcome these obstacles and produces a fully realized painting that expresses an animal’s true character.  The paintings can be of single pets or combinations.  If the customer likes the proof, only then do they commit to a purchase.

One of Plank’s favorite subjects is German Shepherds.  The winning work features this breed.  “I met Diesel at a Bark for Life charity event and was glad for the opportunity to capture his thoughtful, alert energy in a portrait.” To frame, Plank recommends a warm wood moulding such as American Frame’s Tuscan Brown (#12403).

To contact Plank about a personal pet portrait, email dave@premierpetportraits.com or visit his gallery online at American Frame.
