The Bearded Lady Project
The Bearded Lady Project, a nationally touring photography collection and documentary file, comes to the American Frame showroom July 5 to September 26.

The project documents the lives of women in the sciences and how gendered stereotypes about the field can be illuminated with some well-placed facial hair.

Director Lexi Jamieson Marsh said the film and photo series seeks to break down misconceptions about science and the women who dedicate their lives to it.

“The Bearded Lady Project challenges conscious and nonconscious expectations about who paleontologists are, what field work entails, and what science is,” she said. “These portraits harken back to the stylized photographs of male paleontologists past. By inserting women into these iconic images, we're giving them a claim on a lost legacy.”

Funding for this project and exhibition has been made possible by sponsors, including American Frame.
