FEATURED IDEA

Designing a Trivet for Your Kitchen.

Do-it-yourself Rating: Beginner-Advanced

This month’s project is a recipe for fun. With all the ingredients for a practical yet decorative kitchen accessory, we’ve framed ceramic tiles to create a countertop trivet. Simply follow our easy framing instructions to make yours.

Begin by visiting your local home décor store to purchase your tiles, 1/4" Masonite or hardboard and a container of premixed adhesive/grout.

You may already have ceramic or quarry tiles leftover from a kitchen flooring project. By using these you’ll have a perfect match for your countertop trivet.

Arrange your tiles, cut your hardboard to size and adhere your tiles to the board following the manufacturer’s directions.

Measure your tiles and hardboard. Select a frame making sure the rabbet of the frame is deep enough to accommodate the thickness of the tiles and board combined.

For our project we used Neo-Florentine Silver. If using a wood frame remember to keep the heat away from the surface of the frame.

When ordering your frame remember to request two extra corner protectors for the underside of your trivet.

You may also use your framed tiles as a stylish backsplash behind your kitchen sink or cooking surface. Simply hang them on the wall as you would a picture.

Materials:
- Ceramic tiles
- 10-1/2" x 19" Hardboard
- Premixed Adhesive and Grout
- 10-1/2" x 19" Neo-Florentine Silver Frame
- Two (2) extra corner Protectors

You will also need:
- A regular screwdriver

Let's Get Started!

STEP 1
Assemble the frame.

Assemble three sides of the metal frame, (both sides and bottom). Insert the tiles with hardboard adhered in the metal frame and attach the top portion of the frame.

STEP 2
Finishing touches.

Tighten the corner brackets and insert Spring Clips between the frame and hardboard if needed to secure the tiles. Affix the corner protectors and you’re all set.

Our SpringMate makes inserting spring clips quick and easy.
