American Frame Corporation in Maumee, Ohio is pleased to congratulate Libbey High School teacher Ann Halbig on the selection of her photograph, "Her Soul", for a national advertising campaign. Digital Custom Group, based in Cincinnati, Ohio selected Ms. Halbig's photograph as the basis for a new magazine ad promoting their innovative digital imaging services.
Jeff Makoff, President of Digital Custom Group was in Toledo recently to visit American Frame Corporation. Mr. Makoff was urged to visit the Toledo Museum of Art by American Frame VP of Commercial Services Laura Jajko. "We always encourage our visitors to see the Museum - especially when they are from cities like Chicago, San Francisco or New York", says Jajko. While at the Museum, Makoff was taken with a photograph in an exhibit of work by Toledo Public School teachers. "It was a new angle on an old subject. It was attention grabbing", said Makoff of the photograph of a woman sunbathing. Because the image was so eye-catching, Makoff thought it could be used in an effective ad. He noted the name and school of the photographer and called Libbey High School from his office in San Francisco. With the help of the school staff, Makoff managed to get a message to art teacher Ann Halbig that he wanted to purchase her photograph for an advertising campaign.
"It's a wonderful opportunity to bring this back to my students", says Halbig who incorporated the November Museum show into the curriculum for her art class. She had decided to use the preparation for the exhibit as a lesson in framing and matting for her students. Hilbig ordered framing materials from American Frame for 5 photographs, which she planned on entering in the show. The students were then taught how to mount, mat and frame the photographs. Many of her students then went to the exhibit to see the finished framed pieces. The selection of her photograph by Digital Custom Group fit right into the curriculum. "I tell my students, you never know what could happen, what your work might inspire."
Besides the check from Digital Custom Group, American Frame Corporation will award Ms. Halbig with a $50 Gift Certificate and two framed copies of the ad featuring her photograph; one for her personal collection and one for Libbey High School. The ad will appear in trade publications for the framing industry.
