What kind of restoration can I expect for this price?
Our partner DigitalCustom Group is a worldwide provider of digital photo editing, photo repair and restoration and photo-to-fine art services. Their service has received numerous awards and accolades, including a First Class accolade from Wired Magazine in 2002 and an Innovative Digital Product Award from the DIMA division of the Photo Marketing Association in 2003. 100% customer satisfaction is guaranteed.
Read the next section for a list of the standard editing procedures.
What is included as standard in editing? Our Standard Photo Restoration Specifications:
- File Specs: File will be returned at approximately same resolution and physical size as original file.
- Delivery Schedule: Restored images will be delivered digitally on the fifth business day after they are uploaded to our server. So if an image is uploaded on August 21, it will be returned August 28.
- Sepia: Images that appear to be sepia toned will be kept sepia, with the sepia restored to a fresher tone. If an image has yellowed due to age, rather than toning, it will be greyscaled.
- Borders: A white or black border will be removed unless it is an important part of the image (e.g. a vignette, or a border with a studio mark). If we keep the border, we will restore it.
- Damage: Scan artifacts, spots, discoloration and other damage will be repaired or concealed. Images that are severely damaged so as to require extensive reconstruction should be submitted for custom service and detailed special instructions should be included with the order.
- Contrast/Color: Contrast will be enhanced and color images will be re-colorized.
- Straightening: Image will be straightened if needed.
- Writing: Writing on the image will be kept and restored unless it appears to be irrelevant. In general, a date will be kept but a stray pen mark or pen damage will be removed. Studio-related marks and writing will be retained and restored.
- Texture: We will use our discretion whether to leave or remove texture. In general, the reprinting of textured photos gives a poor quality. If texture is important, we recommend printing on a textured paper.
- Original Defects: Original problems with an image will not be fixed, since it is part of the image. An example is original lens flare. If you would like it repaired, a custom restoration order should be placed.
- Special Instructions: If you would like restoration or repair over and above the standard specification detailed above, then you will want to place an order for a special request order. For example, if you would like a person removed from a photo, would like original lens flare fixed (see above), or have a photograph which is severely damaged and needs extensive repairs, a special request order would be the best choice. There is an additional charge (review the price list below).
