A Great American Story: A Personal Perspective
American Frame began as a very small business by a man who had big dreams, my father, Ron Mickel.
It all started in the late 60’s when he opened a paint and garden center where he offered custom picture framing as well. He quickly became known in our community for his quality, craftsmanship and service to his customers.
In the early days, only wood mouldings could be custom cut. Then Nielsen® created an anodized aluminum frame which was beautiful, economical, simple to assemble and could be cut to the 1/16 of an inch. Ron imagined this to be a perfect item for mail order. So he placed an ad in American Artist magazine, under the name ASF (Aluminum Section Frame) Sales, offered one profile (Standard) in three colors, and priced his frames to sell.
Little did he know - he created an industry, transforming professional picture framing from an expensive “hire a professional” project to an economical “do-it-yourself” task.
Today, we’re still a family business and strive to continue this tradition of quality and innovation. Along with our line of beautiful custom made picture frames, we offer services such as volume framing, fine art printing, photographic services, archival framing supplies, on-line art galleries and a FREE MAT program which is un-matched in our industry.
