Introducing The Arts & Crafts Collection- the Strength and Beauty of Quarter Sawn Oak
Known for its simplicity and superior hand-craftsmanship, the Arts & Crafts design movement (often associated with Mission style furniture) emerged in reaction to ornate Victorian styles and the onset of mass industrialization in the late 19th century. Today, the movement is enjoying a resurgence. To keep in step, we are unveiling a new frame collection made from solid, quarter sawn oak. Oak cut in this manner is one of the defining features of Arts & Crafts furniture because of its beautiful grain and superior strength.
Quarter sawn wood is cut at a 90-degree angle from a log's growth rings to produce a vertical, uniform grain that is tighter and straighter than flat-cut wood. Quarter sawn oak takes stain better and is less likely to cup or warp, but it also take a higher level of craftsmanship to produce, which is why it has always been greatly prized.
To launch this collection, we’ve chosen a limited introduction of three finishes: Dark Oak, Sunset Oak and Black Coffee. These are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified woods with water based stains, manufactured in the USA, and custom cut to your specifications right here at American Frame.
