Collage Mats Offer Endless Possibilities
Collage mats have several window openings to display more than one item in the same frame. Because windows can be laid out in almost any way, collage mats are perfect for grouping photographs from special events (such as a wedding or graduation), for portraying a photographic family tree (with photo labels added) and for unique, affordable art pieces (think pressed flowers or a sequence of children’s drawings).
At American Frame, our in-house professionals will custom-cut a collage mat in any design you create. First, make a sketch – it need not be to scale – of the window openings you want. They can be any combination of rectangles, ovals and circles. For a double mat, we will need two separate drawings.
Next, measure for each window opening (don’t forget to allow for mat overlap) and for the width between the openings (a minimum of ½”). Now decide how wide you want the outside borders (minimum 1”). Finally add it all up – width & height - for the finished size of your frame.
Our sample collage mat accommodates six 4” x 6” photos, two 5” x 7” photos and one 8” x 10” photo. The finished measurements are 25 ½” x 25 ½” square. The frame is from our Basics Collection profile 8411 matte black and the mat is Berkshire CB697 Polar White with a black core.
